This would be TPayne's first time here and my first time there with no snow. We left Kirkland around 8:30 or so and left the TH at 10:00am with sunny skies, mild temps and no wind. With a small time window, we would not be able to get to Glacier Lake like we had hoped. The first 1/4 mile or so of trail follows under high tension power lines on a single lane road. The actual trail quickly jumps into dense forest with moss all around. After a mile or so is the crossing over Surprise Creek, the tree crossing is about 24" diameter an hovers about 24" above the creek. The trail continues for about another mile and a half or two before it gains elevation up some switchbacks not far from the creek. As we ascended we got more into the sunny spots and saw a lot of moisture being burned out of the growth creating steam all around. One tree looked as though it were smoldering from a fire since there was so much steam coming out, it was really cool. We got to the lake where there was about 3 inches of snow scattered around the area. There was some fog rolling over the lake at various times and I we were able to get some decent pictures. While hanging out at the lake my thoughts drifted to Sadie, knowing that she was brought here by the Driver in July. I said hello to her and envisioned her running around the lake having a wonderful time. I never met her, but felt that I knew her through the TR's that I read from the Driver. After spending a half hour hanging out on the pennisula we had to get back so Tom could make it to the Sonics game on time. On my way out I said good bye to Sadie and wished her well. The trip down was uneventful and took just shy of two hours getting us back to the car by 3:30. Complete photo set here.

You had some great lighting today. 'Foggy lake' is one of your best images ever. Are you using autostich on your panos?

Thanks for the compliments on the pics. I'm bummed though that I had the resolution set so low frown.gif frown.gif I hope they turn out ok when I get them blown up to frame. Mag, I use PhotoStitch (came with my Canon) to assemble my pano's. I'm pretty happy with the program.

Yeah, I have it too. I just haven't loaded it on the comp since it is older than dirt.

I love the video clip transitions! I need to start bringing my point-and-shoot along just for video capture. Too tired to upload some of my pictures tonight, guess I'll wait in suspense for a day to see if my foggy shots turned out as good as yours. You didn't get a shot of the hanging water bottle! Hope a NWHiker isn't to blame... I checked out your pictures from your snowshoe up there last year. That is a pretty sweet pano of the avalanche. Nice to see a picture of Sadie, Bryan told me about her legacy as a great hiking companion.

You video conveys the calm of the forest well up.gif. I was hovering over the stop button but then the sounds of the third creek drew me in. As small camera tech improves and memory capacity grows I'll bet we see more video on this site in the future. I hope they're as good as this without gratuitous wild zooming and panning.

Great pix -- you hit things perfectly! I especially like "light reaching up lake."
