Well, this morning while drinking my coffee, I was thinking of where to go. Monte Cristo has been on my mind, or perhaps see what Mt Forgotten looks like without the clouds. I even thought a trip up to the Bathtubs might be nice. So armed with maps for the Mtn Loop area off I went. While cruising down 203 I started listening to the weather forecasts. They all said clouds :-( WTH when I left work yesterday is was supposed to be mostly sunny?? Well I am not blowing a tank of gas to see more clouds. Now what? Blanca came to mind, as I wanted to see what Jacks pass Beckler River road was like, so I turned right at Monroe instead of left. Beckler River road was getting a fresh coat of gravel today, and is smooth and washboard\pothole free. The added mile or so walk to the trail head from the washouts is no big deal, and trail is snow free until Virgin lake. As soon as one gets past Virgin, it's snow free again. Turned out to be a good day to be at Blanca.

Saw a good trail head vehicle for sale on the way out. Gobs of ground clearance, lots of good ventilation and a PTO winch! It's even been pre-vandelised to keep the meth heads away!

Nice report. As early as winter came, it sure has held off to allow some late season lakebagging.

Nice stuff. I've been watching that Power Wagon sitting there since mid summer. Lots of parts common with my '42 WC-51. Closer examination shows that it's pretty shot and not likely worth what they are asking. Sweet shots of Blanca!

What a stunner for a November day with what looks like winter in the mountains upon us. up.gif

Beautiful. It'd be nice to get out once more before winter descends, but I don't know ...

I love that place- you're right about the road walk not being much of an issue. Good TR! up.gif

the washouts on the road are pretty impressive; worth a look-see in their own right.

Nice skim on Blanca Lake. It looks nearly summerish except for that. Thanks for giving a look at one of my favorites. smile.gif

Okay, now that is one hike I have never done, and I have done many. I wonder if one could cut the time down that it takes to get to Twin Lakes, by going over the ridge cross country from Blanca? Anyone know or done it?
