Please ... there has GOT to be an alternative to PB&J for lunch on these day hikes that I go on. Peanut butter has gotten to where it turns my stomach. So ... just looking for some different ideas that you guys pack to eat. -c

Soup in a thermos (usually during late fall/winter when it is cold out) Leftover pizza (have to have pizza first though) Bagel, avacado slices, cheese and either slices of salami or tuna from a packet The tuna packets come in various flavors, I like the lemon and cracked pepper myself:

I recently brought one of those whole roasted chickens the stores sell and ate it. Brings the animal out in me ˇsnarl!

At the end of Theodore Roosevelt's presidency in 1909, his fiery eldest daughter, Alice, buried a voodoo doll of new First Lady Nellie Taft in the White House lawn.

smoked salmon, leftover pork chop, hamburger patty, various cheeses, hummus & na'an, tortilla & sumpin' rolled up inside, sliced veggies, cashews, Twinkies, Pop Tarts, home-dehydrated fruit, bottle o' homemade yogurt drink, chicken strips (southwestern style, from the store; buy it in the bologna section), packet of tuna (don't forget a fork), bag o' Twizzlers. That's lunch suggestion #1. I'll get back to you later on another selection.

A nice classic Italian sub (homemade or from a true Italian deli). Sturdy, thick french rolls with salami, ham, other meats you like, provolone, lettuce, peppers (hot, sweet, pickled), olives, tomatoes (bagged separately), generous salt and pepper and then doused with enough oil and vinegar to allow the sandwich to marinate for the first part of your hike. Absolutely no mayo allowed. Or if you are feeling lazy, I started making a sandwich this summer that worked well in the heat: ham, arugula and mustard on wheat bread. No cheese to make it too rich. And one more: Almond butter, banana and honey

I always like to enjoy a piece of fresh fruit with my lunch, such as an orange.

Any sort of sandwich will do. I'm partial to pastrami on rye with horseradish, deli mustard, lettuce, cucumbers, and pepperoncini. Sometimes I just take a landjager and some cheese to munch on. A tupperware container of potato salad rocks. I've even taken a green salad along. Packing the stove along and doing a hot lunch is great in the winter months.

I have a few ideas posted: Here. I usually do snacks for lunch... dried mangoes, trail mix, bars... Sometimes I'll put together a wrap with Underwood meats (gross, I know, but so good) and some dried fruit and/or cheese. In the fall and winter I've started bringing a stove and making just-add-water type meals. Nice to have a hot meal in the middle of the day. HTH!!

ditto.gif ditto.gif Also nice for a hot cup of tea. Tamster & I went to Quinn Lake a few years back and had tea. We almost felt like royalty. It was quite a treat. We usually have a thermos of hot cocoa, so I suppose you could bring a thermos of tea, but there was something neat about boiling water out there and making the tea in the woods that was just cool.
