GeoTom, Silly Traveler and I snowshoed to the first Kendall Peak Lake today. The snow was pretty firm allowing us to boot up the first 2+ miles. Around 3900 feet we put on the snowshoes. At 4400 feet, we left the road and headed toward the first lake, a couple hundred feet away. We ate lunch at the lake and then continued up the road to a landing with great views. On the way down, we took our snowshoes off around 3500 feet. Trip stats: ~9 miles with 2000 feet elevation gain.

Kendall Lakes and grand slam downhill x-c runs
Yes, M.C., it is a great spot to ski down! Did you to any loop-de-loops?! I did one, once....came out feet down and crashed on icy snow. Minor scrapes and big, red faced embarrassment. Too bad my knees can't take that anymore...sucks!

I quit skiing this route in 2000. After a couple horrible experiences with the snowshoers ruining the whole road, I decided I would never ski this route again. I might try a mid-week trip after a recent snow. I enjoyed our recent snowshoe trip to Kendall Lakes. Anybody that can ski the road with all the snowshoe impacts is a much better skier than me.

Hey Joe (always wanted to say that), the snowshoers kept out of our track up.gif
