In my continuing effort to pare down my belongings to a sane (and easily moveable to a new domicile) level, I took two big boxes of books up to Pegasus Book Exchange in the W. Seattle junction yesterday. I ended up with $80 of store credit. That should last me a while.
I used part of that credit to pick up the one book that's missing from an old, old sc-fi series I'd read a long time ago. The series is "The Chronicles of Amber" by Roger Zelazny and the book is called "The Courts of Chaos." I'll probably have to re-read the whole series now to reacquaint myself with it, but the books are fairly short and easy reads.
I also picked up "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest." My sister gave me "The Girl Who Played With Fire" so I started in the middle, am reading "... Hornets' Nest" and then will go back and finish with the beginning...

Willie, I read the Chronicles of Amber while pregnant with my son. His name is Corwin!

While it isn't quite reading, I am listening to a "book on tape on my phone".
Michael Crichton's Prey.
When I told Sugman I was listening to a book on tape on my phone he got quite a kick out of that.

Undanted Courage by Stephen Ambrose
Hopefully I can finish the book in a fraction of the amount of time it takes them to make the journey.

Encounters with a Distant Land: Exploration and the Great Northwest is edited by Carlos Schwantes. It contains essays from 14 different scholars on topics related to NW exploration including Russian, Spanish, as well as Lewis and Clark, Peter Pond, Isaac Stevens, and John Fremont's explorations. It is footnoted which serves to increase the depth of understanding for this topic of interest to many of us. It will be a great companion to an upcoming rainy day.

That's a cool name, and not very common. How old is he now?

Always been fascinated by the Beatles and read Spitz's book (The Beatles) and am very much enjoying this take on Johns life. He sure was a bastard sometimes, but had his reasons. A life taken away from us too soon in 1980. |
John Lennon!
