My brother and I and Stella the climbing dog climbed Jim Hill Mountain from the Lanham Lake route. The summit was completely clouded in, and it was fairly exposed along the narrow ridge. Stella waited for us at the bottom while we tagged the top and came back down. Here we met 3 other climbers heading up. We later saw 7 other skiers, most were heading up Henry Creek valley and skiing the upper bowl. We attempted to traverse the ridge over to Arrowhead, but this was very difficult in the deep powder snow. We finally gave up after 2.5 hours and only getting about halfway there. We slid down into the bottom of Henry Creek valley, walked out to the highway and walked the highway back to the car (parked at the Nordic Center). Snow was a mix of hard pack in the trees and deep powder up higher. 4.5 hours from car to summit, 2.5 hours to get back to the car. Approx 7.5 miles total.

Impressive attempt! You sure get around despite the rough snow conditions. We bailed on our Jim Hill attempt for Evergreen mountain yesterday. I like the idea of a Jim Hill / Arrowhead traverse.

Sweet ! up.gif up.gif Did you guys go up to the highpoint at the end of the ridge or traverse across the open slope (around 6400') to the West (Jim Hill) summit ? We almost went there yesterday. Thanks.

We went up to the highpoint at the end of the ridge first, not being able to see where we were in the low visibility. When we realized our mistake we came back down and traversed across the open slope to the true summit. I should mention that although the traverse we attempted over to Arrowhead is possible, it was not very easy going. I plan on returning to go up the standard route on Arrowhead instead.
