The 2008 edition of the Thursday Night AfterBurners started on the first day of Spring, under a nearly full moon. Too bad it was 40ºF, wet and cloudy! Our modest goal this evening was Cedar Butte, an inconspicuous bump under Mt Washington's west end. Our crew:
Andrea (WaMtnGal) & (Just) Todd
Dale (onetwolaugh)
Don (Malachai Constant)
John (Moosefish) & Clara & Tokul
Joe B. (Newbie!)
Joseph (GQ Hiker Something)
Peggy (Newbie!) and Cubbie (camera shy chow)
Matt (Founder!)
Yours Truly
We staggered out of the Rattlesnake Lake overflow parking around 5:45 PM and meandered over to the Iron Horse Trail, taking it east. In no time, we arrived at the trail spur for Cedar Butte, which apparently has a dedicated website. We made great time up the trail, so much so that the majority took the "Blow Out" route (not much to see, honestly). Continuing on, we gained the summit in well under an hour, where celebratory beverages were consumed. This is TNAB, you know!
Views from the summit extended all the way to I-90 - woohoo! After about 20 minutes, it was time to head back, as it was quite cool and damp. We were back at the cars by 7:45 PM, which made it one of the shortest TNAB's on record (two hours). No worries - plenty of time to fix that!
Cheers,
-Mark

What the crap?! Last year, TNAB ended the day I got back from deployment. Now, it's starting as I'm leaving. Ugh, life is so unfair. I'll be back in two months though!!

Good to see a trip report. Hopefully I can make a couple of TNAB's soon.
