It was absolutely mandatory to get out and ski in this late April powder! Don suggested the Slot Couloir on Snoqualmie Mountain, so we made the quick drive to the pass. After dumping the car in the Summit West lot at 0700, we began the long skin up into Commonwealth Basin. Some how we managed to get on the south shoulder of Snoqualmie after a lot of skinning and a minor detour part way up Cave Ridge. By this point I was feeling a little extra sh##ty (from later than usual partying), but Don did a good job setting in a track to just under the true summit.

Maybe 100' below the summit, at a shoulder, we met up with maybe 8 other people all waiting to drop into the slot. When I first looked over the edge it was hard to see much of anything, but icy cliff walls. With the low visibility and swirling fog, the top section looked intimidating, but after watching a couple folks drop in and crank a few turns it was definitley time to ski! The drop in was fairly simple, crank 6 turns in deep north-facing fluff, and we were down the steepest section.

We worked around a dog-leg then things widened out a bit and it was all good from there with face shots along the edges!

Once down in the basin, we took a break then skinned up 500' of vertical back to the ridge. From here it was a fun ski straight down to the Alpental parking lot (The Phantom). Knee deep powder all the way. It got a little heavy in the last 500', but I wasn't complaining. Great day!

Wow. I thought pictures always took away real world steepness. That looks just a little bit intense. Bet the heart was pumping strong going down that. up.gif up.gif

Easy for you to say. Anyway, impressive. Glad you had fun.

Wow! It didn't take you gents long to seek and find some of the steepest stuff in the Snoqualmie region! Impressive! J

John - I believe we owe you guys thanks for the skin track up into Commonwealth...at least part of it. Still not sure where you guys were on Saturday, but we followed a nice track up onto Cave Ridge.
