Sorry we didn't continue on past the Owl Lookout . . .
No need to apologize, I was great to see the GeoFamily at the parking lot and we look forward to next time at the summit

Everyone have fun in that traffic mess on the way home?
Ha, we head down Hwy 18 to avoid all that city traffic. You guys are crazy to drive in that wink.gif .

I did mention the trek pole sword fight, right?

Well, I was feeling a little sleepy so I ate one of those caffeinated chocolates on the way home. It didn't wake me up at first so had another. I drove us home okay but, unfortunately, was wide awake when we arrived home embarassedlaugh.gif . Panos didn't turn out so good but here they are:

What a fun hike/snowshoe! Although the 'shoes slow you down a bit, the ample snow cover made it easy to make our own trail up, and thus save some time. I was very happy when we busted out onto the upper road at 8 PM, giving us time to make it to the summit. I would've been just wrong to have to turn around after all that effort. up.gif TNAB'ers ROCK! rocker.gif Heal fast, Jasper! And thanks again, Jeremy, for turning out the TR. I may get used to having "guest" writers... hmmm.gif Cheers, -Mark

Cheers, Mesahchie Mark

Btw, here's some interesting background, from one of Karen Sykes' 2002 PI columns no less, on that Mt Washington trail-side clearing that I heard referred to variously as the "owl view spot", "owl lookout", and "that owl place":
Quote:
The Seattle Branch of The Mountaineers featured Owl Hikes many years ago. These were usually short hikes close to civilization, trails you could enjoy after work on long summer evenings. The hikes often ended in a picnic supper. A few Owl Hikes are still offered today, including the once well-known Owl Hike Spot on Mount Washington. The Owl Hikers sometimes stayed until sunset and hiked out by headlamp.
TNAB: More than just a hike. It's a tradition! biggrin.gif

Anyone have a data GPS track of the route taken? I'm thinking about trying it this weekend and would like to plot a route. If so and willing to send: johnr@golfc.com

You don't need a GPS - just follow the trough we dug! wink.gif

Yea I kinda figured that but... I'll admit I'm an electronics junkie and like to put in waypoints to track progress.

A few more photos to add. On the GPS track, didn't Moosefish have one strapped to his shoulder?

Yeah, I had a GPS on my pack, but never turned it on. Kind of habit to carry it, but except when I'm somewhere in the boonies I don't usually use it.

Oh well I'm planning to head somewhere tomorrow, probably Washington or something down the I-90 corridor. Will maybe see how much of the trench is still there. It seems tracks/trails don't stick around too long with the strange conditions we've been having lately and now the slow warming/melting etc.
