I walked up to Barclay Lake on Monday just to get out and see how much snow there was. Wally went with.

Snow blocked the road about three-quarters mile from the trailhead. A really big avalanche came down off the Baring ridge and the snout kissed the road just before the trailhead. Might take awhile for that to melt.

There was 2-3 feet of snow at the trailhead. Dang, I forgot my pass, so I couldn't park there.

Kind of fun following the boot path in the snow all the way to the lake. Lot of water running in the creek at the bridge.

Lake has opened up a bit. Sorry about the dark photo -- my D50 gets confused about snow, and I forgot to meter on the water.

I had just entered the woods on my way out when an avalanche came down Baring. Got the tail end.

On the drive back, saw some cars stopped at those big green fields between Sultan and Monroe. An elk was running around in them! I snapped a couple of shots from a loooong way off. I would have driven a bit farther and stopped to get closer, but I was pressed for time and didn't. Now I'm kicking myself. ALWAYS STOP TO TAKE THE PHOTO.

Nice avalanche shot! I like how it captures the texture of the rock face too. up.gif up.gif up.gif
