Met up with 8buck for a day of wandering around Baker Lake today.

We started out on the Baker Lake trail - but were turned around after we found ourselves hiking on sand.... surrounded by water. It appears this is not uncommon along here as the trail was evident, but the low elevation of the trail plus the sunshine and potential for rain in other areas made me wonder how much risk we might be putting ourselves in.
Regardlesss, it sounds like a bridge was out further along so we backtracked to follow the Baker River trail instead.

Right about 11:30am we heard a LOUD explosion of some sort. Unsure of the source but, WOW was it loud. My mind quickly raced through what likely scenario we might suddenly find ourselves in... but luckily none of them transpired. Anyone know or hear that as well? I'm very curious.
The trail along Baker River toward Sulphide Camp was really enjoyable. Quite a variety of terrain and a million things to look at and ponder. IMO, Quark would this trail.

On the way back home we stopped at the south end of Baker Lake and made a quick ascent of Glover Mountain via a no-nonsense trail. There is a gravel road to the top... but I wasn't willing to take my vehicle up there. Besides, we needed a little elevation gain after all our flat hiking earlier.
