Yeah, I bet it was Carter. Carter is visible from the ridge above and W of Lake Augusta. OTOH, Ida looks like a major bushwhack out to the S. I was up at Lk Augusta last summer and WANTED to go to Ida, but was intimidated when I saw the route. Thus my question.
Actually Lake Ida is pretty easy. There is a boot path, more or less. From Icicle Ridge trail, just before the Painter Creek trail junction (a little before Carter Lake) head south up the open meadow.
I hiked to Ida Lake from Carter Lake. The route is pretty easy. I didn't encounter much brush, but I did this trip in October. The route south of the two small ponds has some wet areas you will have to work around or get wet boots.
