nwtrax: any chance you can post the photo of OM on the thread so others who may want to get it can see where you placed it? thanks! great photos, especially of the goats! note: some folks prefer not to click on someone's photo album, blog, etc.

lots of sheets left since OM saw zero summiteers on mt. jupiter and mt. rose (i think) as the turnaround for retrieval is faster than michael phelps up.gif folks have been using one side only and the other side can be used if needed. next person should sharpen the pencils though or place a ball point pen for extra.

Snagged around 4:40 pm yesterday afternoon during a fabulous thunder and lightning storm... with accompanying rain. Will sharpen the pencils, report back with a link to the TR later today, and have it back out this coming Sunday.

The eagle has landed
It was a completely miserable day for hiking here on the wet side of the Olympics but a good time was had by all (two of us)! The OMTR is resting alongside the Colonel Bob trail register at trails end. There is absolutely no cover at the peak so it won't be hard to find!

Hopefully a report posted soon (school starts tomorrow... no promises!) but Pete's Creek Trail is the way in and be prepared for LOTS of water. This is not a trail for kids at the moment.

Col Bob is one of my favs. I was itching to put it there when I was being assaulted by mosquitos and flies at Mt Rose.

You could have been assaulted by the Dreaded Mosquitoes for MOST of the Col. Bob hike instead!

Good going, shoo fly. I'm excited the register made it to Col. Bob. dance.gif If I was to retrieve it again, that is where I was going to put it. Last report I read on Pete's Trail, it was in bad shape with blowdown. Has that changed?

.....leaving me wanting to return over and over in what ever capacity that may be, even if one day my knees are too old and I can only see the mountains from my porch. Jason Hummel

Thanks GGW! I know, I know... I need to write up TWO tr's. I'm a slacker. After I retrieved the register from Ellinor, I contacted a friend who is a 'winter regular' to Col Bob. We chatted about what he'd heard regarding Pete's Creek and the rumor was that it was 'passable'. The lower portion of the trail, before you get to the 'big' stream crossing, has had tree work done and the trail is clear. Beyond the stream, there are at least five sizable trees across the trail, but they have been there for awhile. Three have trails around them (you have to hop on some other downed limbs so they're not all 'clear' bypass trails) and you have to go under one which is a crouching-tiger bit of a deal - easier on the trip up than coming down! We made it under this'n with our packs on. There's another downed tree near the top that was more trouble than any of the others. There were more little things down that I don't remember specifically. I was going to try to count them on my way down but didn't last long. Some big steps from limbs to rocks or visa versa. The water crossings were more trouble than any of the trees. I have no idea how much rain fell, but it rained start to finish, there's a river running through Moonshine Flats and the rocks we crossed over on our way in, were no longer visible on our way back at that first/last big stream crossing. Beautiful flowers. Wonderful water coming out of everything. Some snow. Yummy berries. In short - it's not a clear trail from car to peak, but it's certainly not impassable, and definitely not difficult. You know, since you LIKE Col Bob, there's NO reason you can't go retrieve it! It's the same hike... just in reverse - to retrieve instead of place.
