Nice day to be out and about near Index. Took my daughters (13) (15) on an easy hike. 2.5 miles RT about 800 ft. el gain. Only 2 cars in the parking lot and they were on the way out as we hiked up. Stopped by Sunset Falls to let the girls innertube the rapids. We had fun!.....
Here's a few pics.
Crew relaxing atop the rock.
Sarah practicing rock glissade.
Along the trail to Heybrook. Notice the dogs are leashed and ready to attack.
Dark scarey forest.
The crew on top, notice all the sweat on GeoHiker.
Rocky and Lucy taking a much needed break.
Close up of bumpy mtn.
Start of the inntertube float.
Looking down the river.
This is where I picked the girls up after their float.
Disgruntled NW Hiker we met near Boulder Drop.

Hmmm, where is this Sunset falls?
I must have driven near it hundreds of times, and had no idea something like that was around there.

It's about 3/4 mile East of the turnoff to Index. South Frk of the Sky. You can see the across river view off the Mt. Index Rd. You're in a developed cabin/home area, so there are signs telling you death and dismemberment awaits you if you trespass. Same for N side of the river at the falls, so unless you have permission you shouldn't go poking around that area.

Hey, thank you for the trip report and accompanying photos GeoHiker. Heybrook Lookout has some stupendous views (at least as far as low-elevation lookouts go).
