I know what you mean. For this reason, and this reason alone, I would like to visit the Big Bosom Buttes (I guess that's what happens when you have non-French people naming things). For food themed places, I like your Chocolate Glacier idea, but I'm glad I wasn't playing this game when I visited the Deadhorse Mesa! eck.gif

Nice trip, everyone. Did Eric mention that he’s been to Watson before? We did it as a winter trip on 1/3/05. Also, is the rock behind Eric the "rock of doom" you were talking about?

With the short day on the winter trip, the sun was setting as we departed the summit. Our hike out included my favorite photo of Bacon, glowing pink like it was ready to eat. Mmm, Bacon.

Also, did you find my name in the Bacon summit register from 2002? Thanks for stirring up the memories. We now return to your regularly scheduled trip report. I just noticed, you did your whole trip in two days? Amazing.

Mmmmmm, that berber was good!!! You can thank Tazz for her stylish penmanship on the note. We actually had a cheeseburger with bacon AND ham on it, good stuff!!! Great story, had me laughing a few times. I only hope I have the stamina and drive someday that all of you had on that trip. Tazz and I were pretty beat just from our lake traverse. Although Tazz's side bushwackin' and avi path straight up beat us up pretty good. I did leave that ice axe JUST for you, but that pesky meanderer gal wanted to throw off our scent winksmile.gif As for the kool aid, Tazz was thirsty lol.gif Thanks for sharing, we'll see you on the next trip, complete with berber and beers! B)

Mmmmm, backcountry...

Hopefully that will be your only non-Dude backpack. I can't believe you went on this trip without me only two days after coming back from the Enchantments. This may be a proud husband talking: Great pictures Babe, made me feel like I was there after all.

Nope, not just you! They are great (though there seem to be an inordinate number of my butt... inordinate being more than 0)! I really like the one of dicey crawling along under the Watson Rock of Doom! (which, yes Matt, is the same one as in your winter photo).

'Babe is an excellent "on-the-go" photographer, snapping pics of the traveling group and still have the energy to catch back up. Well done! up.gif

After a while, dicey noticed a group of five people on a snow patch above us! They were too far away for us to talk to, but they just happened to be where cartman's improvised route popped out of the forest/brush. He gave them beta (I think something like "choose another destination entirely" would have been helpful dizzy.gif ) and they continued on their merry way with overnight packs. Ouch! Hope they got up through that section okay.
That was our group, on Day 2 of a week-long traverse from Watson to Mt. Blum via Bacon Peak, Pt. 5432, Hagan Mtn. Pics and TR's to follow.

Is my memory suspect or is that glacier on the north side of Watson going the way of the dodo? By late season it appears to be broken up with lots of moraine showing. In the past I remember an easy walk across the snow field up to the col below the summit. Unfortunately I can't find any old photos.

I've done Bacon 3X, twice by this route and RECommend that you try another route if you do it again. From the Andersen Lakes contour the north side of Watson(easy benches or snow, ptarmigan here) and you will hit a shallow rib and notch, drop about 500 feet into the top of Noisy creek( may be avalanche debris). Climb up the slope in a moreorless Northerly direction ( pleasant snow and meadow slopes - takes you right up to the wind cirque of Bacon (about 100 feet and just w. of the Summit). This aactually involves about half the descent and a lot less brush, routefinding, etc. than the drop over the south ridge of Bacon and into the "Diopsid Lakes", they were unnamed when I was there. This is the first part of the Watson, Bacon, Hagan, Blum traverse that I did years ago.

..-and rest thee by many brooks and hearthsides without misgiving. Rise free from care before the dawn and seek adventures. Let the noon find thee by other lakes, and the night overtake thee everywhere at home. HDT

Goforth, We looked at your suggested route on the map but, even though it's lower angle terrain, we avoided it because Beckey warns of a difficult vegetated descent into the upper NC valley. Can you be more specific about where you descended? Were you there early season when the vegetation was snow-covered? In the Blum summit register, we saw a map depicting the route you describe. Was that your map? Thanks, Steve
