I worked with a guy who grew up in a small village in Mexico. Many people around there raised goats and they'd find them dead once in a while, throat slit and drained of blood. The devil responsible for these attacks was similar in description of the "stick indian". They called it "Chupacabra" and I thought that I'd add an image to this discussion, if for no other reason than to add some additional dimension to the fear factor. That would sure scare me if I saw it just on the edge of the light from a campfire.

and to add a musical dimension to the discussion... (Warning: This song was stuck in my head for something like 2 months once, so there's some risk in listening to it.)

There are hundreds of evil sinister creatures wandering the backwoods at night ready to pounce on you at any moment. There are horrors you can't believe. One reason why I always have a campfire, carry a loaded gun and bring an unleashed dog. up.gif

I was out backpacking this last weekend and heard a strange noise, it sounded kinda like the sound made by wings flapping, yet not exactly the same.... I have heard this sound many times when hiking out in the woods, and buddies that I hike with don't always hear it, but this time they did.... There was nothing visible to explain what was making the noise and you could distinctly hear it over the noise of the falls that were not that far away... I don't know if I would call it a whooshing sound or not, but it was really weird...I was way out in the middle of nowhere, so I don't think that it was man made... I made a comment to my buddy that it was probably just the stick indians, that story at the beginning of this thread...I should not have read it right before leaving on Friday....though I still went, but I had this lurking feeling in my mind that smething or someone was watching me as I was sitting at camp...wow just gives ya the willies...sheesh... I still cannot explain that sound I kept hearing though...you know it was sort of like the sound you hear when you throw a boomerang...hmmmmm...well anyways just thought that I would share the little tidbit.....freaky.....

Sort of describes a grouse call. A low whoosh-whoosh-whoosh. Loud, carries far.

When in doubt, call it a grouse.

All True
Friends, My Coug daughter dated a young man of indiginous origins. The young man lived in a big valley, east of a big snowy mountain named Pahto. There are roads on this young man's "large property" that folk like him don't drive on much. The roads lead up to Pahto. Sometimes, at night, when you stop on these roads, the subjects of this thread will come out. My ancestry is of English and Irish stock. Therefore, I am not authorized or qualified to speak further on this matter. On topics such as this many many folk like me giggle and grin; my daughter's ex-boyfriend does not. Tom
