The trail from the road to Summerland is in great condition, just a couple of small patches of snow, nothing that couldn't be done wearing a pair of tennis shoes. Lot's of flower, marmots, and beautiful scenary. Past Summerland was all snow to Panhandle Gap with a couple of very dangerous snow bridges according to the hiking ranger. I would have continued on but had a less experienced and very tired hiking companion with me. Nevertheless, I had a wonderful time and it was my first time to see this side of the mountain. Simply exquisite.

Dancing hiker...formerly known as slowhiker, but was afraid I'd be confused with Slow Hiker, and slowwalker.

Sorry for the thread drift...but Grizzy, what was the snow like at the gap?

Opinions expressed here are my own.

You are pretty much on snow from Summerland all the way up to the gap, then there is that fun traverse over the gap which was much more tame than I expected (it is worse when more snow melts, making you traverse above a rock field) So it wasn't bad at all, just a slog agree.gif ...I'll post some pictures after I load them up on SmugMug later today.

Cool - thanks for the update. Pretty much what I suspected...hard to know though with the park's condition reports. From the park's reports it sounds like the ridge down to Indian Bar is a nightmare though...we shall see.

A very large group of Brits were headed there yesterday, people are getting through to Indian Bar as far as I can tell....I know the bridge there is damaged or gone....I don't know what you do about that...I got lost temporarily in that bit from the gap to Indian Bar a few years ago....bring your compass!
