One lass to hike them all, one lass to post them, one lass to shoot them all, and in the darkness refine them.
Part 1: No Fellowship for the Trail - Tuck and Robin Lakes - Sept 10-11/08
Precious wants to get out…
I need a partner; I don’t want to hike solo
You don't have any friends; nobody likes you!
I'm not listening... I'm not listening...
I want to take pictures!
The hike was uneventful, until I reached Tucks Pot where I squandered 30 minutes looking for the “proper” trail.
Sneaky little hikers. Wicked, tricksy, false!
Maybe I should backtrack until I find the right trail
Must make the lake for sunset. We wants it, we needs it.
I bushwhacked up a gully where I got turned around on the trail again before I finally started up the correct way to Robin. Once I finally pulled in to camp I was very grateful, with the drive and all it had been a long day for me.
No food or rest for Karen…[Click Click] … Yeess… Yeeess
Sunset at Rivendale
Sunset and sunrise did not have any dramatic clouds, but the colors were very nice.
Sunrise at Rivendale
On the way out I somehow ended up in the same gully, but this time I wasted no time and made a beeline straight down. And after the long hike and drive out I was off to hike #2.
Part 2 – The Two Tarns - Park Butte, Mount Baker – Sept 11-12/08
I got to the Park Butte tarns in time to witness a colourless sunset.
Mt Doom Glaciers on Mt Doom
Wake up. Wake up. Wake up, sleepies. We must go, yeeees, we must go at once.
The next morning was much better and the sunrise was spectacular…over Blum and Hagen…not my intended subject.
Misty Mountains
Oh well, once again it was a sublime setting, so I can’t complain.
So bright... so beautiful... ah, Precious.
After a misfortunate accident in Wyoming (Middle Earth), my 24-70 lens had just returned from the repair shop; only to be dropped on the ground here and sustain an almost identical dent on the filter ring. Grrrrrr.
Why does she cry?
Cruel women hurts us. Master dropsed us.
Of course she did. I told you she was clumsy.
I wanted to head up Railroad Grade and get those up close views of the Deming Glacier but I had to meet PIB at 2:30 in Maple Falls, so I just ran up to the lookout instead.
Come on! We must go, no time!
Part 3 – The Return of the Queen - Lake Ann, Mt Baker – Sept 12-13/08
Tall hobbit is always so polite. l shows them secret ways that nobody else could find, and they say ["Karen had fled"] Very nice friend. Oh, yes, my precious. Very nice, very nice
Mordor
After shooting the alpenglow on Shuksan from across the lake, I decided to wander a bit higher to see how the view changed. I wasn’t going far, so I left my pack with my headlamp and camera gear on the rocks.
Clever hiker, to climb so high!
And so I reached the top of the ridge for a nice 360 degree view…sans camera.
Precious! Gone, gone, gone!
As I picked my way back down I realized I had made an error in judgment. It was getting dark and I could not see where I had left my stuff. I discovered that night my new pack (Osprey 33L – it rocks!) has reflective material on it for easy spotting in the dark!
Mustn't go that way! Mustn't hurt the Precious! No. Not very nice at all, my love.
Sauron's Eye Lame Star Trails thanks to almost full moon
The hike out was uneventful…well that is except for the 2 hours we spent picking berries! I took a quart of berries home to feed the very appreciative kids.
They is always hungry. They always needs to feed. They must eat.
Those nasty little hobbitses, they would break the precious.
I can’t wait to get out again.
Precious likeses volcanoes, precious want to get out...

Way to take advantage of the nice weather.
I like the idea of combining several hikes in one trip.
I ended up in what is probably the same gully from Tuck Lake. I didn't see the path that goes over that large chunk of granite.
Beautiful shots also.

Fantastic trip report - and I don't even have words for the photos...
We spent our four days backpacking last week singing Lord of the Rings themes and assigning roles (I'm the fat hobbit), so this tr is very appreciated

This could be the perfect TR. Amazing photos and a whimisical prose that captures the spirit of the trip.
Bravo. And thanks.

OK I admit it...as usual the writer in the family, David¹ gets most of the credit for the prose.
