TNAB: The Three Summits of Guye Peak
The Thursday Night AfterBurners made their traditional late season hike to Guye Peak. It was an outstanding evening to be in the mountains, except for a mosquito or two. TNAB'ers included Don (Malachai Constant), Schmidt Altitude, half of the Lykkens (Jo), John (Moosefish), Chris (Magnum), Gary T, Peggy (Runningbird), Joseph (GQ), Steve (Yukon222), and Yet's Truly.
The excited team made quick work of the first part of the Snoqualmie Mountain trail, then veered right through the talus to reach the Snoqualmie-Guye saddle. A hiker could depart for Cave Ridge or into Commonwealth Basin from that point. We went right and south to Guye.
The goal was to ascend all three of Guye's "summits", which probably have less than 10' of difference between them. To do that, you need to descend a steep eastern gulley just north of the North summit, cut across the eastern side, then ascend an equally steep gulley to the Middle summit. I knew from experience that the Middle summit piece required a rope handline for safety, so I came prepared with a 30m length. What I didn't expect was how steep the descent would be - it seemed to be more eroded than past years. Fortunately, both Chris and Joseph brought ropes as well to protect the initial descent.
Once everything was in place, the traverse from summit-to-summit-to-summit went very well. All but two of our group attempted the traverse, and everyone of them made it before sundown. As it would happen, there was adequate light for the return trip. The hike back to Alpental was done under an increasingly starry sky accented by a 3/4 full moon - exquisite! It was a shame to have to leave.
Great Hike!

Sounds like a very good trip! Wish I could have went but the legs wanted to rest a little. I am hoping to have a decent weekend ahead.

I could hear you lamenting over leaving the moonlit trail all the way down the hill, Mesahchie. It was an epic battle. The magnetic force of the wilderness resisting and finally conquered by the storm princess's love rays.

Excellent evening for a stroll up Guye Peak (all 3 of them). Still a few bothersome mosquitoes out there but perfect temperatures. Sunset was OK but no clouds to generate the fantastic colors enjoyed by the TNAB'ers last week. I did take a few pictures but won't be able to post them till tonight.

Looks like a little more than "a hike" to me! Hiking requires boots, not butts! Nice trip you guys!

I like to have an 100% connectivity ratio between rock and tush. Heading out for work, will post video later this evening. Thanks for talking me through the rope section Mark ~Jo

I was so busy thinking about the terrain I forgot to get out the camera more than a hand full of times. Guess we'll have to wait for the shutterbugs to get the full perspective. Oh well, enjoy ~Jo
TNAB waiting semi-patiently on the first summit for us I considered hanging with Don, but he didn't have cashews today so I decided to climb cliffs instead. john takes a few pics to blackmail people with moosefish heading up find the tiny people on the rock saved the best for last? moon watching over Mark watching over us moosefish on the rope

Great pics guys. Did you give a little tribute to that poor bugger that peeled off there a couple weeks ago?
