I see Enertia now sells "Coleman brand" meals on their website. Anybody know about these? They really dont explain how they differ from their regular meals. They serve two people and work out to be a little less per serving.

My feeling on it is the new owner of Enertia decided to expand and made a deal with Coleman - a company that isn't so known for being one to make big changes - this will get Enertia into places like Cabela's and fishing/hinting stores.
The previous owner of Enertia died a couple years ago, then the company was sold in recent times.
The deal with Coleman is one of the few ways they will get into bigger stores - and not be just an online retailer (and in small gear stores).

Online from the company is your best bet. You will get the freshest product. As well, if they still offer the sampler pack, that is a good deal.
*Warning though! Some of their products do contain artificial colors and some of the meals can be very high is sodium. (Just the fine print ya know!)

so im in stage 2 of the food planning on a JMT trip and now am wondering:
why are some of the serving sizes of these meals so low in caloric value?
i mean, who on long trips wants to 'share' 4 different things with their camp partner just to get 800-1200 calories in their bellies?
i don't know about you, but i want my single serving to have 600 or more.

Yep, and there you go. One reason so many people make their own meals! But don't forget....add oil whenever you can to bump up your calories/fat.

Be careful of some of these meals if you are on a low salt diet. I just spot checked a couple and found them to have over 3000 mg of sodium.

True...just pick and choose carefully. As well, you can also swap out lower options at home. By that, if the meal comes with the broth sticks, you can get lower sodium versions at Trader Joe's and swap them in! That cuts out nicely a chunk of sodium. One reason also some are high is the meat - if a meal contains sausage, jerky or salami it will be MUCH higher than those that don't. The Cranberry Couscous for example is filling and quite healthy

These Enertia meals sound great; I have been looking for an alternative for the Mountainhouse Pro-packs that I had been using. Can anyone tell me, are they consistent from one flavor to another, or are there certain types that one should avoid. I realize that it is often a matter of taste, but if there is wide-spread consensus that one flavor is lacking, I will avoid it.
Thanks for the thread!
