Nothing attracts more friends than knowing what mushrooms are edible, and knowing where to find them!

Stealth Morels
Found these right along the Ingalls Creek trail, on what must have been one of the busiest weekends of the year:

We saw lots of mushroom hunters (as well as some deer hunters) on our hike today (well, deer hunters on our way to the trailhead). I don't trust myself to know edible vs. non- edible, though! paranoid.gif
You can hang out at the mushroom buying tents and learn. It is quite the happening place in the evening.
Where are they located?

That fairy ring has to be record setting for numbers of morels in one location.
Well, how many were in that fairy ring - 15? Its a very good year for morels. We had 23 in one small area yesterday which we dubbed it Lebron's lane. My wife and I picked 18 lbs this weekend.

Morel locations are TOP SECRET. But you stand a good chance of seeing them east of the cascade crest between 2000-5000 feet between May and late June. They like some sun and some shade, some grass, some fire rings, recent burns. Google might tell you some more.

One used to be able to join the Mycologicle Society of Seattle for around $25 per year. For that, you got invites to attend a half dozen or more outings per year. Great way to learn about mushrooms, and better yet, maybe find out where they are at???

I was wondering where the mushroom buying tents that treeswarper mentioned were located, not the Morels.

I've been to a few of their meetings... Don't expect to learn all the "secret spots". But you do learn a lot: Each outing has a "briefing" (what to look for etc) and a "debriefing" (reviewing all the mushrooms that were collected). Even if you're not interested in collecting, don't miss their fall exhibit: I went last year and was completely blown away by the amount and variety of mushrooms they managed to collect for the exhibit! http://www.psms.org/

My bet would be somewhere near Morton, Randall or Packwood if it's Treeswarper's turf.

Last week, a co-worker was showing her cell-phone shot of a bear. Of course, everybody asked in unison, "WHERE WAS THAT?" "Uhh.....I can't tell you. We were mushroom hunting." mum.gif paranoid.gif lol.gif

Great spring king haul. I've never hunted those because it is a long drive to get them from here. I go after the coastal ones and I have to leave the house before sunrise to beat the hoards of mushroom hunters.
