Heh, we actually saw those neon-orange hats from Heather Pass as we were descending. We were originally going to attempt to get to Wing Lake on Saturday, but we didn't have adequate daylight for such a traverse in the snow. We camped closer to the pass and didn't even see the sun on our stay up there.

Once again a fabulous epic adventure. We feel your pain about the gaiters - Babe and I both busted the bottom strap on ours this weekend making them pretty much useless.

SD, thank you for the comparison shots. The weather sure did change fast this year.
Opus, great shot of the one larch on the island, and some of your other shots, also. Almost like still-life compositions.

They were so bright they affected the exposure and white balance on a lot of my photos! I'm not kidding either.

Great shots of Black and environs, intreps (but Jim's cap takes the cap). Did any of the people you ran into attempt Black at all at all? See you on the slopes, soon. tdd

There was a second group camped at Wing that were planning to go up Black, at least when we talked to them around 4pm saturday. They had crampons and axes. I wouldn't be surprised if they abandoned the plans in the morning though, conditions were pretty crummy. I was hoping to get Black this season too, maybe next year.

Opus and TDD - here is what happened to the other group. Fortunately we all showed good judgment! Wing Lake & Black Mtn. s.d.

Challenging footing yes but there was only a little less than a mile of it.
