Our original plans of biking down the Carbon River road and hiking to the Carbon Glacier, had to change due to the closing of Rainier. The boys really wanted to see a glacier this weekend so we picked the Squak glacier on Mt. Baker. We left home at 6 a.m. and was at the trailhead by 8. The road was in great shape the entire way to Schrieber meadows. It looked as if I had chosen another hike that we are supposed to get nice views but won't due to thick cloud cover. The trail was snow free until about 4200'. At about 2.5 miles, the trail starts going in and out of meadows and groups of trees. The sun was trying to get through the clouds but we still couldn't see anything. So higher and higher we went and then we started seeing the clouds disappear around Baker.

We were excited now and soon we were above the clouds and had great views everywhere. Baker's Sherman peak, Glacier Peak, Rainier, Shuksan, and many other were visible. We were along side of the Squak glacier and climbed the ridge to where it meets the Easton glacier. Lincoln Peak was now visible to the west.

We stayed up there a little while before turning around. I went a little closer to the Squak terminus to see where it was. Our high point was 6500' and there was about 2 feet of snow at that elevation. The boys had a fun time going down. Jayden slid head first down many of the hills.
Trip stats-8.75 miles in 4h 45min and 3000' elevation gain
Thanks for reminding me about the Squak. That was three cameras ago (almost six years) and I'd even let a return trip slide off my "To Do" list.
Mistake. It's actually one of the most accessible glaciers and a good hike on ground or snow. Now it's back on my list for nest summer.
Something lost behind the ranges. Lost and waiting for you....... Go and find it. Go!
