Our momentum came to a grinding halt as we trudged up unbroken, knee deep, hard, wet snow .
Winter's here in places. I often joke when were way out there on dayhikes, once you are on the summit, I'll say, well were halfway done.

The History of the Sleeveless Shirts: Back when Babe and I were Q-Tips (newbie hikers that wear cotton), I had a favorite green cotton shirt that I liked to wear hiking. One day on the trail, Babe had to pee but we had forgotten to pack any t.p. I ripped the sleeve of my shirt off so she could use it. Now I couldn't hike with just one sleeve so I ripped the other off to match. As I hiked the rest of the day I discovered that I liked the feeling of the bare arms and have mostly hiked in sleeveless shirts ever since.
I also prefer sleeveless shirt for playing basketball and lifting weights.

I think this warrants a visual for the history of the sleeveless shirt and how old blue came about.
1998: It all started with a cotton t-shirt (shame on us) 1999: Then came his favorite green t-shirt (cotton again!) 2000: This one stuck around for awhile 2001: Until the infamous out of TP incident on our first Enchantments trip 2002: Wonder where the sleeves went...;-) 2003: Synthetic became a regular with him in the form of his purple sleeveless 2004: This one saw quite a few trails 2005: And quite a few backpacks 2006: Next he tried a white sleeveless, though this one never had staying power with him 2007: Finally, love at long last! The blue shirt makes it debut on the ALW 9 day trip. 2008: And the rest is history.

Another round of nice pics.
I heard this is a good place to go when it is socked in west of the pass. Looks like this is doable year round. Looks like snowshoe country during the winter. I thought it was also snowmobile country as well, or is it relatively noise-free?

You might be able to drive on the Rd 113 to the area near the Yellow Hill trailhead. It is a couple miles past the last of the houses and around 2800'. Depends on what kind of rig you have as I could easily see that area holding 18" of snow in the middle of winter. But there might truck tracks to there.
Not much snowmobiling on the south end of this trail. You will experience some near Jolly at the north end, depending upon which line you take. Of course, if you can do it anytime during the week, then little chance of snowmobile encounters.
