Well, it still isn't a DSLR but it's a higher quality point and shoot - a Panasonic Lumix (a Leica lens) with 8 MP and a 10 x zoom. I like the software that came with it - Arcsoft. I haven't been doing much real hiking but have been doing lots of walks and getting to know the new camera.
Sunday was the Woodland Park Zoo - most of those photos were not worth posting, photos today were taken at Volunteer Park.
I can't wait to take it out into the mountains. SOON!!

Your sucha smarty.
Dpreview just did a budget camera test, of the nine models they tested they liked the Panasonic DMZ-LZ8 the best, over Sony, Nikon and 2 Canon models, amongst others.
I was just looking at that cammy online, I need go touch one somewhere.

Stunning photos. Of course your past photos have been equally as stunning so I don't think it's the camera. Very nice.

Great photos - and I agree that it's more your eye and finger than the camera. You and Quark could go out with a Kodak brownie and come back with stunning shots.
But don't keep us in suspense. What's the camera model? Your flickr photos don't show any EXIF data.
I've been using a Panasonic TZ5 for about a year and I'm happy with it. There are some limitations but no camera is perfect. I'm avoiding a DSLR because I don't want to lug it around and I think the incremental improvement is marginal.

Criminy (is that a word?). Holy crap – now those are words. I clicked on this thread because it was Karen with a camera. But I still wasn't prepared for these images. They are stunning. I don't care where you take that camera. Just please keep putting the pictures here.

I agree, it's Karen's eye and not the new camera, 'cause I was with her at the zoo with my Panasonic TZ5 (virtually the same as hers) and my pictures weren't worth a darn thing. It's the eye, strictly the eye.

Karen, (a little creative license here) "Walks with new camera" - then "Stands with fist" - when you miss the perfect shot of a Tatonka http://www.evtv1.com/player.aspx?itemnum=7674 (Buffalo) after fumbling with the new camera.
Sorry that's the first thing that popped into my mind when I read your title. Kinda' like thinking of the Pillsbury Stay Puff Marshmellow Man (Ghost Busters).
What can I say - I'm a classic movie lines freak...
