Once it snows back in there it's pretty much over until it starts to thaw in the spring. The road's cut into the hillside so I wouldn't want to drive back there during high avi conditions anyways.

You picked a really nice day to go there. Thanks for sharing. A person could always do a loop and go up the trail that starts at the end of the road and comes out near Tyler Peak and then run the ridge to Baldy and go out the Maynard Burn Trail. I tried that in summer this year but was not able to figure where to cut down the ridge to get to the Maynard Burn Trail so went back the same way I got there. By the way the Tyler Peak Trail starts right there where the road ends. Like the Schmidt team said it is a well worn in path but it is steep. As far as the road being open in the winter I think it depends on the year. The Upper Dungeness Trailhead is at an elevation of about 2500 ft. and the road getting there is a little higher in places. I have heard of people going in the winter but there are some places I would not want to go over the edge. That part of the Olympics is dry and a person would think they were in Eastern Washington if they did not know better.
