Before driving home Monday, we had time for a short XC ski trip at the site of the 2010 Olympic Nordic venue. The overnight temperature dropped down to 1 degree Fahrenheit, but it warmed up to about 8 degrees by the time we reached the day lodge. We started skiing on a groomed trail from the day lodge that swings by the ski jumping center.

This trail connected to the Inside Passage trail that lead us down to the Madeley Creek Loop trail. We skied the 5 km rolling Madeley Creek trail.

Finishing our trip we skied back up the Inside Passage trail, and then took the Cross Country Connector trail to the start/finish area for the
2010 Olympic cross country skiing.

Cool... you look like Olympians! I love the signs en Francais.
Whistler always makes me jones for the delicious Salmon Bennies at that funky little cafe.

How was the snow for XC skiing since it was so cold but groomed? Did it ever get crunchy or icy?

The snow was great. The snow didn't seem crunchy or icy.
By the time we finished, the temperature was around 15 degrees.
Initially the small hills we skied down, the wind chill on our exposed face skin was pretty numbing.
