What a great day out there. Man that is one hell of a hike. smile.gif Conditions were pretty good most of the trail then the last hour and a half or so was Ice and Snow.. Crampons and Ice Axes are a blessing.... The summit had some WICKED wind going on. But Baker and Rainier were both out and the views were AWESOME. You could see Bellevue AND Seattle. Truly a great day to be up on a hill. Here's a panorama.
Here are some pics.
And here's a couple of guys doing handstands up there.. Crazy.
I wasn't one of those victims today... me>that trail !!

detekt, It doesn't have to be clear and sunny to tile your bathroom biggrin.gif ewb, No its not, I did Granite last year twice, once in the winter, once in the summer (then the weekend following my summit hike to granite I broke my ankle and tore some ligaments). Now that I am all better it is game on. So far this year I have done Si and now Mailbox. Trying to think of where to go next. This summer I am doing the Wonderland.

I was up there on Sat. as well. There must have been 50+ cars in along side the road when I left. No solitude but a great hike and conditioner. 1st summit of 09 with many more to follow!

If you want solitude (at least in summer) or any degree of it up there, leave at the crack of dawn. Last summer at the end of June to beat the heat and the crowds I left around 7:15AM (which was really kinda late) and got about 25 minutes all alone on top and hardly saw anyone on the way up. The other 35 minutes or so I spent on top where with only a few people. Thus I got to snack enjoy the views without the crowds. As soon as I started to head down the conga line had formed and the masses were en route. That isn't exactly a huge summit area either to accomodate the masses. At least on Si you can spread out so even if it's crowded, you can walk around and find some isolation.
