Ever since last year's GTG at Mazama Ridge in honor of Tazz's birthday I've been wanting to go back. Another camp out up there hasn't worked out so far, but with a perfect weather window, a day snowshoe trip would have to do. A call to find out the road was open, Tom willing to drive the icy road (snow started in Elbe) and Rdyhiker ready to meet us in an hour, and we were on our way. An empty parking lot greeted us at Narada Falls. A good sign! We retraced our route from last year through a foot of excellent fresh snow past our old campsite and toward the ever elusive Sluiskin waterfall. Other then the occasional icy wind blowing from the East the rest of the day couldn't have been more perfect. Oh-of course the one thing missing was the bar cheers.gif the pole dance dance.gif and all the friends from last year.

nice! I have wanted to put another one together but have been waiting for better snow and my shoulder to heal up so I can play! I love those cornices on the ridge...they are always there. Nice and perty after the new snow. Good pics thanks!

Tazz -all day yesterday I was picturing that perfect Pinnacle/Castle shot that you took last year, the one that made the calendar. Hope you heal up soon, there's some fine snow waiting for you. up.gif

Sunshine, blue skies, fresh powder and the sounds of silence. A Friday in late February and MRNP was almost deserted. No traffic on 706, only a couple cars at Kautz, a handful at Longmire and Paradise, one at Narada Falls. Wonderful, but a bit startling. Our noon arrival wasn't exactly a crack of dawn, beat the crowds time. A sign of... the tough economic times?... people tired of winter and on to other pursuits?... just a lucky, odd occurrence? Whatever the cause, as the beneficiaries, we took full advantage of all that soft, pristine whiteness. Five hours of roaming, fun and frolic later, our only regret was that we hadn't planned earlier and made it a camping trip. Despite the cold wind that picked up as the sun sank lower and the less than stellar forecast for today, leaving was tough. Some more pics to add to Barb's gorgeous shots:

Wow, what conditions! Lucky you. Hard to pick a favorite from all the eye candy...I do like this one a lot though:

Thanks, Gali. I really like that one too, but a good caption eludes me. Any ideas come to mind when you viewed it? Otherwise I may have to bump my own thread forward and post it in the "Caption this photo" thread. biggrin.gif

Preening trees (I've used that for one of my own photos once, but I can't think of a better one.) Or, something around the tracks, I dunno...Tracks in wonderland?

Thanks for great pics and bringing up some great memories. I think this is the trip where BarbE changed her name wink.gif . You better change the caption before Alti-Babe sees this picture though winksmile.gif

Gali, good suggestions, thanks. But... ever notice that sometimes a photo just seems to 'not take' a name? Somehow, this one still wants a different title. Maybe it'll come to me one of these days. smile.gif
