Took advantage of the much needed sunny Sunday and drove out to Umtanum Canyon. Left Bothell, WA at 8:30am....arrived @ Umtanum at 11am. I was back at the car by 4:30pm.
Little did I know an avalanche on I-90 @ Snoqualmie Pass at approx. 4:20pm Sunday, would cause me to take a 6hr detour up to Stevens Pass to make it back to Bothell, WA. I made it home at 11:45pm! Whew. Long day.
The trail head was moderately packed with people of all recreations. Fly fishers, car campers, ooooh'ers & ahhhh'ers...etc.
I decided to head up Umtanum Ridge first and dodge the caravan of families and coolers on wheels headed up along Umtanum Creek.
The ridge trail was free of snow and dry ground until the very end. There were a FEW wildflowers in bloom, but nothing too amazing, YET. The trail along the creek was dry and free of mud and becomes a little overgrown about 3-4 miles in. (Most crowds rarely ventured this far down the trail...thus, it was rather peaceful.)
Here are just some of the snapshots I took of the trails and surrounding beauty:
Umtanum Ridge trail Umtanum fly-fisher. Umtanum pano One of the valleys in the Umtanum Canyon area.. Umtanum Ridge trail Umtanum beaver work. Umtanum hillside. Umtanum Creek trail. Umtanum Creek campsite. Ridges of Umtanum Umtanum Creek trail. I found this Nike tree starting to bloom.. =/ Umtanum Creek trail. knee.brace

Nice photos. I was up there on Sunday as well. Did you see the big horn sheep on the canyon wall? I got caught up in that I90 traffic also but it cleared after and hour and a half. I left Umtanum at 4:00 pm and was home in Silverdale around 8:30.

People were telling me there were some sheep up on the ridge the further I made it back to the trail head... I must've had my eyes in the viewfinder too long. I missed 'em.
Thanks for posting the pics! Seeing them in picture form isn't so bad!

Yeah I was telling people about them on my way out of the canyon. Were you the guy that asked me if I saw any Rattlers?

I was the guy with two cameras hanging off his sternum strap...and a tripod poking out of my pack.

I think I remember you. There were a lot of folks in the canyon on Sunday.
Edit: Oh yeah I see your picture up there. You were with a lady and you were taking pictures as I came down the ridge. Later I saw you in the canyon on my way out. Nice to meet you.
