The washout is 6 something miles up Index-Galena rd. Blanca lake is trail head is still accessible however, via Beckler River rd.

Alas, what I learned is that Microsoft's bureaucracy for screwing up one's corpnet access is extremely efficient, and the bureaucracy for fixing said screwup is proportionately inefficient. In other words, I was unable to make it. down.gif banghead.gif I'm hoping someone else will be able to fill us in.

getting to west cady ridge
Looking for a confirmation that if one wants to hike the N Fk skykomish area including west cady ridge, you can get there via Beckler but NOT index-galena (due to road wash out). Correct?

That is correct. Beckler Road/Jack Pass will take you to West Cady, Blanca Lake, etc.

Trip report on the way. Wanted to note in this thread that while indeed you take the Beckler river road to get to the Blance/Skykomish/Cady Ridge trails, you need to take a right turn just before the pont where the Beckler road is gated. It is marked '63' but it's hard to spot until you're right on it. In fact, we drove by it and stopped by the gate, disoriented. We were just about to scrap our death march plans when we spotted the 63 sign a little ways back up the road.

On the way to the eastside GoodAg and I did a quick walk and fish recon of the NF Sky from the Index side. Yeah, the road definitely needs to be relocated up the hillside away from the river. This one is going to take a awhile. In the meantime the fishing is going to improve for those who don't mind getting a little wet.

You can't fool me. The river with stripes in it is the road; the river with GoodAg in it is the river. dizzy.gif

Something lost behind the ranges. Lost and waiting for you....... Go and find it. Go!

It was river; it was road; now it's river once again.

Obviously water can wreak some major havoc pretty quickly but the plants don't fart around either.

Since we have already had two "hundred year floods" just nine years into this century, who wants to bet that the road will wash out again before it's even open? hmmm.gif Bottom line: get used to diminished access. It's only going to get worse.
Yes, I would think they need to update their criteria for the "100 year flood". The diminished access is bad for people but good for the environment. Obvious case in point is Monte Cristo and Glacier Basin. BTW, I will pick up any trash I find in the backcountry, even an I-pod. lol.gif And if no one claims it, I keep it, trash or not agree.gif

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

frown.gif Is the TV still there near the road block, wedged in the rocks, half submerged?

Actually, the area was pretty clean. Looks like people have been doing some cleanup and some trail maintenance. I didn't see the TV. All we pulled out of there was a beer bottle. It was a microbrew so there goes another stereotype down the tubes. I guess cretins cross demographic/socioeconomic boundaries.

That's good to hear. I can't claim cleaning that area up...but it got pretty bad at one point. The last time i was there i filled a 50 gallon trash bag. Did not even put i dent in the trash. It was also snowing that day....I though about diving for that TV...considering how cold it was that day, i decided not to risk it.
