April 17 to April 19 Melissa and I went to Lake Ozette in ONP and helped out with the Coast Savers coast clean-up. We left after school friday and drove to the swan bay boat launch on the east side of Lake Ozette. We loaded up our camping and hiking gear in the canoe and paddled over to Ericson Bay Campground and met our friend John Bridge. John had baked potatoes ready and the fire was waiting for the burgers that John brought. in the morning, after a breakfast of bacon and cheese on a toasted bagel (i love canoe camping), we all 3 piled into John's canoe and paddled the short distance to the trail head of the trail that leads from lake Ozette to the ocean beach just south of Sand Point. We hiked to the beach and headed south to the Yellow Banks area. we explored tide pools, watched and listened to birds, and enjoyed the sunny weather on a beach to ourselves. We then headed back and picked up six large garbage bags worth of marine debris on the way. We then loaded them on our backs, utilizing John's patented bamboo burrito method, and carried them back to the trail head. We paddled back to camp and met the Duchow's who stayed with us Saturday night. The night was spent visiting with good friends and playing speed scrabble. I had better mention that we were graced with the presence of a very vocal owl as well. On sunday we hiked around in the old growth forest of Cedar, Sitka Spruce, and Western Hemlock. We also went exploring in the boats on the lake for a while before loading all our gear and marine debris into the boats and paddling back to the cars. It was the best weekend we have had in a long time.
