Consider this a condition report as I have no pics. The road is in great shape and the first several hundred vertical feet of the Ingalls Pass trail are dry. After a bit of patchy snow/dry it became fairly continous snow to the Pass where we changed to ski boots. My young friend Iain stopped short of the summit of Ingalls but that may be due to the fact that he had his gall bladder removed 2 weeks ago! The register tube on Ingalls needs to be replaced as the 2"PVC is broken.
Skiing was heavy but fun back to the pass. We were able to put together a descent route that left us 4 or 500' above the Lake Ann trail but the snow is going fast.
Yo Don, we missed you by a day. I'll add to the conditions report. Yesterday (Sunday, 5/31) we hiked to Ingalls Pass, skinned up to Fortune and skied the SE bowl of Fortune (see Rigafari's pic). N aspects around Ingalls are consistenly snow-covered but melting out fast. We triggered a substantial surface sluff in the bowl. We exited via ski and cross-country hiking down to Esmeralda trail, and did not de-ski until 5200' (lower than we usually de-ski on the Fortune loop) but the snow is melting fast up there.
I expect Chainsaw Willie and/or MtnMan to post some pics and a TR.
Way to go, Iain!
Definitely a great tour. I have pics posted on Webshots, but Willie adds a touch of flavor to the TRs these days. I'll just add to his.
I'll be hitting the bike today, gotta get rid of this lactic acid
