Last day of the long weekend 5/25/09, we hiked up the Canyon Creek - Chancellor Trail east of Ross Lake in the North Cascades on the Okanogan National Forest. This is Hike #46 in Manning & Spring's North Cascades guidebook.
The weather was great. There were a few parties of backpackers who camped along the trail and 1 other group of dayhikers. We knew one of the backpackers. They said they made it beyond the rockslide that closes the trail but the scramble was a bit tricky. They said they made it to atleast Mill Creek, maybe further.
We hiked about 4 miles in, about 1/2 mile beyond Boulder Creek. There are about 9 clumps of blowdowns over the trail, some of which require a crawl and/or detour. The creeks were raging with meltwater. The creeks raging down the mountainside to the northwest on the other side of the canyon formed impressive waterfalls. This is a great spring hike.
