One of my favorites at Mt Rainier. A lovely stroll through lush forest to meadows flanked by Govenor's Ridge on one side, and Tanamos Mt on the other.
Start of the trail
One of the several cute little streams that flow near the trail. No tales of any animal encounters, except that I swore I was following elk tracks.
Not a breath of snow until Tamanos Creek camp, but I'm familiar with the area so route finding wasn't a problem. I found the bridge no problem.
The meadows. Socked in with snow, I'm not the best guesser at depth, maybe 2 or 3 feet??
The ridge
At a little patch that had melted, the western anenome and glacier lilies started popping.
I had the entire meadow to myself. Made lunch of Ramen Japanese Noodle Soup.
After lunch I had to get back into the forest since i didn't bring sunglasses. D'oh!
One last look
On the way back to Tanamos Camp, ah-ha, it was an elk.
On the ranger's board at the White River WIC, it said snow free to the final, steep switchback section, then 100% snow.
I usually make my annual Summerland trek about 3rd week of July.
