The trail up Robinson Creek to the pass is fine. It's been logged out. It's a little brushy in spots but only in the avalanche chutes. There are a lot of wildflowers in the forest and open areas. Especially tiger lillies. Pretty.

The avalanche deposit in the forest is weird. It's hard ice but insulated with gravel, rocks, sticks and branches. It's shaded in forest and may be around for awhile. But, it's easy to walk over.

Surprisingly, there were almost no bugs despite the scattered melting snowpatches at the pass. Robinson Pass is soggy. There was a guy with a huge backpack with a .22 rifle sitting at the pass. In evening, we hiked cross country up the ridge west of the pass. Easy going. Saw a spruce grouse. Good views over to Slate Peak lookout and elsewhere.

In morning we hiked Trail # 478 A toward Slate Pass. This trail is not maintained but is easy to follow to the big meadow at the saddle. Just a few small blowdowns.

We lost the trail at the headwaters of the Middle Fork Pasayten due to avalanche debris and snow. I put on new Kahtoola Microspikes to try them out. They worked well. They're best on hard snow or ice. The snow was soft so the microspikes weren't necessary.

Found the trail again and proceed up toward Slate Pass. We turned around about 1/4 mile south of the junction with Trail # 498, Buckskin Ridge and had a brunch of powdered eggs in the subalpine parkland with a full frontal of the ridge we hiked up the evening before. Thin orange lines mark the pass and the 2 knobs northeast of Pk 6935.

It was hot, sunny and dusty down low on the hike out yesterday. There were 2 dayhikers hiking up. Some types of flowers down low are drying out. Lots of bicyclists on the road to Mazama, near all the vacation houses.

Great pics and TR.
This is one of my regular hiking and running areas. Sometimes it's a bit hard to appreciate what is around you from the ground. Friday I was on Driveway Butte and took this pic of the Robinson Canyon and the surrounding mountains.

I'm headed up to this area the end of July - It's so pretty - I've never seen it in summer/spring, only fall. THanks!
