It's nice to see this area in late spring/early summer. We hiked this last summer up the Upper Cathedral Lake. Here are some pics of that trip (including Remmel Lake since you were reminiscing. This hike is a tough slog into the really beautiful stuff. The Chewuch River Trail is pretty in its own way but not for everyone. You do indeed get a lot of solace as driving 30 miles north from Winthrop is not everyone's idea of a good time! Here are my pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/9751986@N04/sets/72157606581124171/

We were up there June 3rd and it was warm then with very little shade. We only went to the waterfalls, had lunch and back to go shopping. We try to do a short hike in the Winthrop or Twisp area on days we go to "town" for grocery shopping. I keep looking for moose up there and saw scat but not the moose. Since the fire they have moved in with more browse. Good TR. up.gif up.gif

Thanks for the compliment Putz! Coming from you that carries a lot of weight. Of course, the beauty of the scenery makes it hard to take a bad shot!

We have moose wander through our property up the Lost River from time to time. Last week someone close to Mazama had one in their front yard. And last year one walked through Winthrop. Used to be real rare but more the last 6-8 years.
