I've been on most Day Hikes around Mount Rainier, but the view of the Mountain from the Burroughs trail...amazing! Got an early start up the trail shortly after 8AM, passed two ladies on Sourdough Ridge and then had the rest of the trail to myself. Maybe 4 easy patches of snow to cross, nothing major, as long as you have a sense of balance. As I was decending down from 2nd to 3rd Burroughs, two hikers caught up. They'd been up 3rd before, so I followed along. We took the snowfields where possible, then a steep climb to the top.
The return was overly crowded and frustrating. Don't like to complain about this, but so many tourists in tennis shoes or flipflops without water, even some macho guys struttin' around without shirts on. That'd be some intense UV rays at 7500 feet. Countless people trampling way off trail. Oh well, guess they have as much right to be there as me.

Oh la la! That Panorama of third Burroughs with the Lenticular cloud -- outstanding. Burroughs is one of my favorite Rainier dayhikes when it's not too crowded. Last week, since I heard from a ranger that there was still a steep snow crossing (and I'm a snow wimp) on the approach to the first Burroughs, I opted instead for Fremont Lookout. Fremont also has the 'in your face' view of the mountain, but just doesn't live up the Burroughs. There were several snow crossings between Sunrise & Frozen Lake, though easily traveled, I wonder how much melted out over the last few days of sunshine.
Thanks for the post & especially the motivating photo of the third Burroughs.

Cool pictures. I did this hike 20 some years ago and will have to revisit.
The crowds though can be fun especially on a weekend afternoon!
Looks like the snow is melting out nicely up in the Sunrise area. Made it up to Skyscraper/Freemont last fall the last weekend of September (no snow worries then).
Will have to get over there soon to do something.

Awesome pictures! I might have to suffer the crowds for those kind of views.

Touron is a nougat of Arabic origin made with almonds and honey or sugar, without which it would just not be Christmas in Spain.

Thanks for all the responses. The day before Memorial Day, I went on a 14 mile hike up the North Fork Skokomish River. That night I got a stomach ache. At first I thought it was just hunger pains, but it lasted all night and into the next day. Ends up my appendix was ready to burst. The surgery went fine...or so I thought. 3 days after I got released, I had to go back with way worse stomach pain than before. Had infections in my colon and intestines. For 2 to 3 weeks, I was really weak and could hardly move around or eat. So with that all still fresh in my mind, it was enjoyable to be out on the trails again.

Oh no! So glad you are back on the trails! Still appreciate you finding my sister's backpack last year and returning it safely. Hope to see you on the trail someday. Shriner Peak is on my list this summer.

Great to see this is almost clear of snow! One of my favorites. I haven't been to Third Burroughs though, only to Second. Do you recommend it?
