"The door was open." NOT As lono pointed out above, it was the wrong key to open the lock and there was a chair wedged under the door handle. I predict some backpedalling by the defendant.

According to the Wenatchee World, the suspect has skipped bail and told his family he's taking "a one-way trip to the mountains." shakehead.gif Be Advised Hikers. paranoid.gif http://www.wenatcheeworld.com/news/2009/sep/15/suspect-who-bailed-out-on-twisp-murder-flees/

huh.gif How is it that the man was arrested on Aug 14 but released on July 30th? If any of the rest of the article is actually accurate, that's too bad. frown.gif

This is really important advice! The guy's letter to his family says he'd rather die than lose his gun rights, adding "as usual I am packing two pieces . . . let no one get in my way - I will not be very kind."

If you show fear, a monkey will bully you.

Fifty-one years old and he writes, "I am actually amazed I have lasted this long." Why would he be amazed at that? Sounds like a wee bit of paranoia to me. His actions portray a whole lot of paranoia. Pray he doesn't take another innocent person's life.

Awful. His pre-suicide note has this woe is me tone and ends with an apology that he caused embarrassment and financial burden for his family, but does not make any mention of regret or sympathy for the innocent victim and his family. He evens claims "I was in the right. . . that fateful night." WTF? And he even proudly identifies in detail the two firearms he'll be using for his "intentional exit." What a twisted and tormented mind. Is his forecast of an "intentional exit" sincere? Or is it merely cover for him to skip bail and go on the lam? Sympathies to Tom Pfaeffle's family, friends, students and comrades. From all accounts, Tom was a lovely guy. How sad.

rolleyes.gif Yes, Dave, I realize it's a typo. But if this fine news media outlet can't be bothered to notice easy to check facts like this, how can we be assured that the more complicated parts of the story are accurate? BigSteve - I too noticed the lack of remorse or mention of the victim. However, if the man is actually suicidal, complete self-absorption is pretty typical and I'm not surprised no mention is made of the victim or his family. Notice that his note also doesn't apologize to his own family for what I assume is the senseless taking away of their loved one, either ("oh, sorry I got you in a financial jam and a media circus, but I'm sure you don't care whether or not I'm dead otherwise").

Oh, I'm pretty sure the rest of the story is accurate. rolleyes.gif

Easy there, we're talking about the story regarding his flight from justice...or at least I am...that appeared in the Wenatchee World and several other newspapers, and that I wrote about this morning in my Examiner column. As for the earlier accounts, everything I've read squares up pretty well with police reports and court documents. Anderson's piece in the Seattle Weekly was very thorough.

Good points, Yana up.gif I guess I was hopeful that, if a guy is going to check out from this world, he might do it with some grace. Yes, you are right, many suicides are designed to punish the survivors. So sad. RIP Tom Pfaeffle.
