Worked with the BCH, PCTA, and forestry service over the weekend to put in almost a quarter mile of brand new trail near Government Meadow. PCT hikers wont have to walk on forest road anymore there.

Was hot hot hot and Washington's state bird (the lovely mosquito) was out in force. As I mentioned we put in about .25 miles of new trail. We also built one new bridge, replaced the old bridge near the Ulrich cabin, and graveled in a section of Maggie Creek trail in the Norse Peak wilderness area.

Great photos. Say, isn't there an old 4X4 road that runs right through there close? Back in the 1960s, my uncle's Jeep club and one from Yakima opened up the old Naches Pass road/trail more or less, and IIRC, that route went right up there through or close to Gov't meadows. One time, Don McCune's old Exploration Northwest did a program on one such trek. A beautiful area. up.gif up.gif

Dave, that route still exists and can be driven currently. And yes, there is a parking area of sorts right behind the cabin, then you can walk down the PCT to the cabin.

You mean this bridge got replaced?
up.gif up.gif I am figuring the new trail was put in near FS 7080? If so, a big thank you up.gif

Yes, the broken bridge, by the cabin, is gone and a shiny new one has taken its place! And yes again, the stretch along 7080 where you had to walk along the road is what was rerouted. Gorgeous valley views. It was wonderful to see various user groups coming together to put this new stretch in. We had horse people, hikers, the PCT association , and the forestry service all working together. Even had a 4X4're or two help out!
