Monday, June 22, 2009 Ancient Stone Tools Discovered at Construction Site in Washington AP. EVERETT, Wash. — A construction site in Snohomish County has turned into an archaeological dig that is turning up spear points and arrowheads nearly 9,000 years old. State historic preservation officer Allyson Brooks told The Herald of Everett it's one of the most significant sites in the states. A survey for a housing development in 2007 uncovered stone tools. A few small test digs found even more. Now the developer is working with county, tribal, state and federal authorities to protect the land.

Any idea as to just where in Snohomish county the site is? Even approximately? I understand they might not be anxious for the precise location to be widely known. (As with the similarly ancient site near Cascade Pass.)

Is there any followup on this - are the relics on display? Is the site somewhere you can visit?

It would be fun to know the general area. On the sound, rivers, or foothills. Otherwise, just follow the elephant bones you'll find it. wink.gif http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbian_mammoth In 1998, the Washington State Legislature approved the Columbian Mammoth as the State Fossil.

There was a portage between the Pilchuck and Stillaguamish rivers, near Granite Falls. The artifacts may be from a village located near the portage.
