A took my son Ben (12) on an overnight trip to Barclay Lake. This was the first time he got to try out his own backpack and a new sleeping bag. I was surprised how quiet this popular trail was on a Friday. We found a beautiful campsite near the outflow of the lake under an ancient redcedar tree. Late Friday afternoon, two base jumpers dove off of Mt. Baring. One of them came in just above Ben's head and landed on the sandy spit where we were fixing dinner. He showed us the video he took of his descent. He also had a video of his friend's descent from on top of Baring - the friend rapidly turned into a small dot moving across the lake.

That is such a cool place to take the kids. My teenagers don't complain at all on that trail- might be a good place to cool off next week.

It's definitely a fun place to take kids as it's not hard plus it's fun to swim in the lake. My boy and Kathyb's boys had such a great time there.

Alas, I was fussing with the tent when the Brave Men descended. I just missed the landing by a few nanoseconds. It made Ben's weekend, though! Definitely fish in the lake. They were rising all day long. A family was fishing on Friday, and the Dad reported that there are 16 inch native trout.

Yipes, I was thinking the same thing. embarassedlaugh.gif Did Ben enjoy the backpacking experience? I was wondering if you'd get rained on this weekend... But it looks like it wasn't bad weather at all. Fun time, father and son. cool.gif

Ben had a great time! We did get a little bit of rain, but nothing serious. The weather stayed pretty nice most of the time.
