I just didn't want to get out of bed this morning. So with a late start, I really wasn't willing to drive anywhere, but really needed the exercise. Off to Granite Mtn it is. At the second avalanche gully I decided I had enough of trail, and headed up to the lookout.

It was still early, and Low is just over there....

I figgured what the heck, why not go for it? Off to Crystal, Cad and Denny it is. Then up up up..

Was a good day out. The Deer fly's were out in force, but surprisingly, not many skeeters.

Don't understand this ...

Crystal, Cad and Denny
Did you drop down to Denny Creek and then back up to Low or go cross country from Granite?

Went around Denny lake on the east side back to Granite Mtn trail on way out to keep the gain down.

How was the drop to Crystal? I remember the drop to Cad as being more than a little unpleasant. Looks a great alternative route. E

There is a steep boot path to Crystal, and a faint footpath down the outlet that fades out, but while steep, isn't bad. I looked for a way to drop into Cad without hitting Crystal, but didn't like the way it looked. I have done the "off the shoulder of Granite, down to Denny over to Cad up to Crystal and then up to the lookout before, so I was comfortable with the route. The red line is a GPS track, the blue line is a best guess on the route out (forgot to turn the gps back on).

Very nice route -- looks like it might be doable in winter to avoid the Denny Creek death trap
