I planned these 4 days at a friend's cabin near Silver Springs Campground in order for my mom to get in some hikes. There are some easy ones that are truly gorgeous, and I knew she would love the area. We did the hikes in easy, harder, easy, harder order. This was day 3 - easy. First day: Noble Knob; 2nd Day= Norse Peak; Day 3 described here; Day 4 Crystal Lakes and Peak.
We first went to the section of the PCT heading to Sheep Lake and Sourdough Gap. It is flat for a good mile before turning left up into a woodsy/meadow area. Then it gains some elevation - didn't seem like much, but the guidebook says 1000 to the lake. It was one of the prettier lakes I've seen - down in a bowl but lovely green. I stared up at the PCT going across the ridge above us with drool hanging out of my mouth - wanting to go run up and do that section, but this hike was for my mom - not for me. We muckled around the lake and had lunch there. My mom said she could easily spend the day there, but we wanted to check out a bit of the Naches Peak Loop as I remembered that it was one of the best flower places - it did not disappoint!
We headed back toward the Naches Peak Loop and went out as far as the tarn. We spent a good hour there. My mom was deliriously happy to be in the high country surrounded by phenomenal flowers with minimum effort.
Stats: 6 miles roundtrip more or less and a little more than 1000 feet of gain
friend's cabin - our base camp - no running water but a roof over our heads happy mom enjoying the flowers at Tipsoo Lake part of Sheep Lake mom enjoying being out on the trail thirsty doggie some of the flowers on Naches Peak Loop more flowers the tarn my mom on the trail

Yes, I hope to be out on the trail at 79 1/2 also - even if I do have to do it on two artificial knees as she now has!
