Another nice high desert hike, you can see the logistics and what the vegetation looked like before the fire in 2014 Here. The trip is nice following the steep ridge from the East and curling South and West to the summit with great views up the Entiat Valley. The fire gave the route a real hair cut, but we did see some Blue Bells, Butter Cups, Deer, and an Eagle. The ridge trail from the road is dry and loose dirt, scree, with some pretty steep sections which coming down could potentially be hazardous to your health. Steve and I both got off the trail at times and climbed around rock, Steve eventually opted for an off ridge slope descent. But overall what a nice day to get out and we spent nearly an hour on the summit before heading back at a lazy pace. It is a grunter at times, full sun, no water source, 6.5 miles and 3800' r/t. Mills Canyon Rd. another access point to get to Keystone is closed and gated due to fire damage / washouts.

With the Mills Canyon route gated visits to Keystone Pt. should take a real hit. That means everyone will be forced to expend some serious effort to get there! Wasn't much up there to burn but it looks like it got scorched anyway. Good shots up the Entiat.

The question will be how can I get up there for those five miles of Rock Roses assuming the fire didn'the wipe the East ridge of the canyon out ? The top of the ridge looked intact.

Nice to see the comparison. But no trees or houses to burn there at least.

None you can see but an electrical fire in a house up Mills Canyon started the whole thing.

We did some good trips in the area. I just did near the reverse route we did last year when we did the Gold Ridge Loop and was looking back at Anthem Peak and Fern Lake the week before that. I am going back to NW Ohio to visit family in June maybe we could knock off a loop between the Toledo area and Columbus. Mohican State Park has a 12 mile loop.
