That's a great photo Yukon - I agree it looks higher.

Is that another 'balanced rock' on the peak in the distance?

strider I've never been lost, but I'm frequently uncertain where my destination might be in relation to where I am at the moment....

Here's a pic of the Balanced Rock from the south side (pic taken from the Teanaways). Seems to be a few feet higher.

Very cool pic! Mine from the same area is not nearly as good (angle and clarity).

This should end all controversy. The summit is obviously higher.

On my summit trip to Mount Stuart last month, via the Cascadian Couloir route, it initially looked like the "balanced rock" summit was higher (probably by virtue of our ascent angle and relative closeness to that point rather than the "main" summit). But then, as we neared the false summit of Mount Stuart, it began to appear more and more that the "main" summit of Sherpa Peak was actually slightly higher in elevation than the "balanced rock" summit. I recall Gimpilator and I discussing this very topic on the mountain that day. I might have even taken some photos of it, and will check later... Keep in mind the angles of some of these photos. From the north side the "main" summit would probably look higher, and from the south side the "balanced rock" summit would probably look higher. Of course, the slightest slant of the camera would offset the reality, too. Both summits are close in height, that is for certain.

60 pounds lighter but not 60 points brighter.

Well, the "main" summit is closer to the summit of Mt. Stuart than the balanced rock, so that's not really surprising given their very similar heights.

Maybe the "main summit" is taller than the Balanced Rock after all!! Sure looks that way in the pic above. Or maybe not! lol.gif

I don't mean to be a total maxo-zoom-dweebie, but the problem with all of the photos in this thread is that the horizon line in all of the photos is subjectively established by the photographer. The only way that one could use a lens and a camera to establish which one is higher is to position a camera on a tripod with with a leveling system and force the image to be perfectly parallel to what gravity is able to establish as the horizon line (and even then there's probably a huge statistical margin of error).
