Sweet Jesus you take nice pictures, Tom. How did you learn? Today I spent the day hiking with my BGF, who is a professional nature photographer. I asked her about composition. She said a general rule of thumb is to do pictures in "thirds." Looking over your pics, I think I see a lot of "thirds." Is this correct?

.....leaving me wanting to return over and over in what ever capacity that may be, even if one day my knees are too old and I can only see the mountains from my porch. Jason Hummel

Thanks. I just point and shoot. Never really liked that rule of thirds but do (grudgingly) keep it in mind when composing so as not to look like an armature.

Very nice trip report and photos. Thank you. Jeff Smoot's "Climbing Washington's Mountains" says: "One especially exposed rock peak can be passed either by descending a gully and traversing heather slopes about 100 feet below the ridge on the west side, or via a class 3 traverse on the left, starting at a group of bleached snags." Is this spot in the nicely labeled photo "Kyes from Ridge" or in another one of the photos? Thanks. Eric

"Glacier on NE Shoulder of Kyes" looks like the rotting corpse of a animal washed up on the beach.

Your photos are worthy of repeated viewings....I'm studying now "Looking Back to South Ridge from Kyes" Here is how I remember that little piece of real estate.

Yep. This is the spot labelled "sidehill" in the Kyes from Ridge pic.

Yep. This is the spot labelled "sidehill" in the Kyes from Ridge pic.
Thanks. Did it seem like you could have avoided the scariness of the side hill section by going somewhat up or down and then traversing that bit in the trees where you have nice secure holds? It looks like that from the pictures, but of course things often look rather different when you're close. Eric
