Your pictures of Bridges 1 and 2 are really helpful. A mine book I've been looking at stresses not going on those at all, but scrambling below (they probably didn't want to get sued if someone didn't 't make it). Any chance of doing that if we chicken out on the bridges?
That mine is a real beauty, and there is so much fascinating history in that area, it's too bad it's so difficult to get in there.

The one with the single remaining log might be doable on the upstream side, the one that is mostly complete,,,,man oooh man when that goes we are in trouble, It is VERY deep and very steep...

Ok, good to know. We've been scrambling down under the rotten bridge across Boulder Creek to get to Boulder Lake, so probably could do the same for Bridge 1. Any chance of doing some preemptive repairs on Bridge 2 before it's completely gone?
That's great that you made it up there, and thanks for the pics and helpful info!

Mother is taking it all back. I didn't like that bridge before the Galena Rd washed out.

My brother-in-law's family owns property near the bridge over the North Fork. Cabin long since gone but he knows a great deal about that area and I have hiked in there many times. The first time I was there(late 70's), you could drive up to the open area where you can see the cabin on the hillside below a large mine.
Along side the road up to Mineral City there are a number of mines. One of them had an old mining cart still inside. Not sure if it is still there and how safe that particular mine is now.
Of note, I have found some new mining activity in the last few years very close to this area.

Jimbo,
I thought you would have been there by now. I have not gone into that particular area for awhile but I have to believe it is still there.

Life takes turns. I've still got your notes, H. Hound and I talked about a few years back.

Good Luck indeed! The clouds lifted briefly this evening to reveal a nice dumping of new snow in the backcountry.

Mother nature came in and remodeled the area.
Two weeks ago - a collapsed 60ft long 3ft diameter old growth log that had fallen from the west bridge support:

Yesterday. Incredible...it is GONE:

Looking back at the start of the "trail" Last week Mama Nature took out the entire trail across the slide area. BE CAREFUL ... and select your route wisely!
