The boys didn't have school today, so what else to do but take a hike. After my climb of Maude and 7FJ yesterday, I needed a cool down hike with a lot less elevation gain. I haven't been to Yellow Aster Butte before but I now know why people say that fall is the best time. We left the TH around 12:15 and instantly started gaining elev. until we reached the bowl to traverse around the other side of the valley to great views of Baker and Shuksan.

We reached the south side of YAB and looked down to see many small lakes or tarns. I told the boys that it could be a side trip after the climb. We made it to the false summit for a break. Our goal was the real summit about a quarter mile to the north. It looked like an easy enough climb, so we made our way along the ridge and made it to the top of the pointed summit.

After a break we quickly made our way back down to the trail and headed down to the tarns. This was the highlight of the trip. What a cool place these little lakes sit in. Reflections everywhere and views of all the mountains. We wandered around there for a while and decided to go back. I would have loved to make this into a backpack and go up to Tomyhoi but the kids have football games tomorrow. We got back to the truck and the kids and I agreed that this was a great scenic hike.

Touron is a nougat of Arabic origin made with almonds and honey or sugar, without which it would just not be Christmas in Spain.

What a great looking hike! I've been meaning to do this one, but your photos sealed the deal for me. I think i'll head up there on Monday should the weather cooperate.

I was planning to get up there but had to face the fact I've got so much to do at home...
Now looking at your beautiful photos...I should've gone!
