What is your favorite kind of clam chowder? chow.gif

Touron is a nougat of Arabic origin made with almonds and honey or sugar, without which it would just not be Christmas in Spain.

I bought a can of clam chowder in college once... before that I had no idea why some said manhattan and some said new england. Not knowing any better I choose Manhattan. Once at home I was quite surprised to see whatever it was that was in that can. It never even touched the pan... straight into the garbage. Ate ramen. Still have never tried the Manhattan style. It just looks wrong.

I like New England better than Manhattan. If I was doing a beach hike, and had to make clam chowder from scratch to survive, I'd probably make 3 days of New England, and then 1 day of Manhattan (assuming I was hiking on the East coast where New England and Manhattan are, of course). up.gif up.gif

If I had to pick one, it'd be a good New England chowder, but there are so many tasty things that go by the name "chowder" I'd hate to limit myself. In the winter, I'll hit Pike Place Chowder once a week for lunch. They have 6 or more varieties of gloppy chowderish concoctions on any given day, and I've tried 'em all. I am admittedly a fan of the entire soup family of comestibles, of which chowders are a member, and always on the lookout for spoon-and-bowl nutrition. Just thinkin' about chowder has firmed up today's lunch plans, I do believe....See you at the market - I'll be the one face down in his bowl, licking the last drops out of the bottom.

White, of course. But some white chowders are too chalky and/or pasty for my taste. Duke's has pretty good chowder, but the best chowder I ever had was at a place in Madison Park 15+ years ago. Don't know if the place is still there.

Any chowder...never met one I did not love. Especially on a typical cold rainy PNW hike or jaunt. Washington chowder is akin to New York pizza.

...wait...are we just going to hang here or go hiking?

I love white chowders - but not pasty or floury tasting ones! OTOH, I love salmon chowder full of carrots and onions even more so. And chowder has to have bacon swimming in it. Dangit! Now you have me craving it bawl.gif

Mussell chowder, made fresh, over a beach fire.

strider I've never been lost, but I'm frequently uncertain where my destination might be in relation to where I am at the moment....
